Community Involvement
Residents at Parkview are welcomed as valued members of the community! Residents attend monthly community potlucks for seniors, use the library, shop in the stores, and attend community events such as Music in the Park and local vendor fairs. Residents even have their own float in the Fairbank Island Days parade!
The community also comes to Parkview. Children and staff from the Little Island Child Care visit, participate in crafts, stories, music, and snacks with the residents. Members of Wapsie Valley FCCLA provide volunteer hours helping the residents. Each month, a community business joins the residents to discuss their business and lead an activity. Residents have decorated cookies for holidays, made and sent postcards to active-duty military members, painted with watercolors, and even visited with the community police.
The facility and residents often serve as a neighborhood meeting area for special occasions. Santa visits with children and their families after the holiday parade. The Easter bunny stops by and hides eggs for the children as well as posing for photos. The Island Days prince and princess are crowned on the lawn for everyone to enjoy. Parkview is really a member of the Fairbank neighborhood!
